Common yoga mat dimensions are primarily 61 cm × 173 cm-the standard size in China-though other sizes, such as 61 cm × 183 cm, are also available. Standard thicknesses include 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, and 7 mm; TPE mats can reach a thickness of 10 mm, while mats designed for jumping rope range from 10 mm to 20 mm.
Selection Advice: A thicker yoga mat is not necessarily better, as excessive thickness can compromise balance. A thickness of 6 mm is considered standard and is suitable for beginners. Beginners might opt for mats that are 6 mm, 7 mm, or 8 mm thick, switching to mats between 3.5 mm and 5 mm thick once they have gained some experience. For floor exercises, the optimal thickness is 6 mm to 8 mm, whereas mats for jumping rope should be 10 mm to 20 mm thick. Regarding dimensions, the length should exceed the user's height by at least 15 cm, and the width should allow for an extra 5 to 10 cm beyond the space occupied by the body when lying flat with limbs resting naturally.
