To maintain hygiene, it is recommended to clean the mat at least once a week if used frequently.
When cleaning, use a diluted solution of a small amount of dish soap or a neutral detergent; spray or wipe the mat, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and then dry with a clean cloth. Avoid using disinfectants directly, as they can corrode the material and shorten the mat's lifespan.
After cleaning, air-dry the mat in a cool, well-ventilated area; avoid direct sunlight, which can cause the material to crack or peel. When not in use, it is best to roll the mat up and secure it rather than folding it.
Consider replacing the mat if it becomes sticky, slippery, starts to flake or crack, develops permanent stains, or no longer lies flat.
To minimize the risk of cross-contamination, practitioners are encouraged to bring their own mats. If using a shared mat, place a clean yoga towel over it to create a protective barrier.
